December 2011 Meeting Minutes
The meeting was held December 12, 2011 at 7:30pm at Mitchell School.
Prior to the PTA general meeting there was an excellent presentation about “Bullying Prevention”. This eye opening presentation was lead by the Shapleigh and MItchell guidance counselors and principals, and our School Health coordinator. The presentation took us through the steps taken if a bullying situation arises. It also explained what our children are taught about the differences between bullying and teasing, and strategies to cope and prevail over bullying behavior. It was a wonderful presentation with much information. A website with information and resources that our schools follow is by Stan Davis www.stopbullyingnow.com.
The PTA general meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by Bethany M

UPDATES
a. Events – G. Willikers went very well
b. Fundraisers – Wear your school spirit, Daddy’s pies, Original Works and Weathervane Seafood makes Cents collective raised over $1600
c. Memebership – going well and still collecting funds
d. Outreach
1. Bethany M proposed building a charity volunteering opportunity for our students. She is looking for more ideas for volunteer opportunities our children can do. There is a Seagrant parent child education program, parents and children can participate together in programs funded by colleges to reach out to communities.
2. End of year review letter to be sent home.
3. Build harvest supper off of MItchell Garden – community building experience – grow garden, cook books to tie in recipes, still open to ideas.
UPCOMING EVENTS
a. Kid’s club is starting, as well as Traip Forum nights
b. Still no one to step up and take over Dancing with the Kittery Stars – still looking for someone, or perhaps and different spring event idea, or spring catalogue fundraiser
VOLUNTEERING NEEDS
a. December Food Drive – Beth G. still looking for volunteers the dates/times are Dec 19th at 10am, Dec 20th at 9am and Dec 21st at 8am, the church is located at the corner of Haley Road and Crockett Neck Road – just show up and have some fun!
b. Seaperch the 7th and 8th grade underwater robotics – may need volunteer chaperones for a testing event – stay posted
c. Brenda B has volunteered to take over collecting the Box Tops – thank you
d. Still need volunteers to head our Outreach and Communications positions
YOGA CARDS Sandy H. Mitchell school still need them purchased to continue this wonderful program. Cards for the classroom can be purchased online at www.yogaforclassrooms.com
So please purchase before Dec 17th we need 19 more!
